Boost for the euro as Lafontaine exits in German power struggle
Article Abstract:

It is likely that there will be a marked improvement in Germany's relations with other European countries. Lafontaine had clashed with fellow socialists in France with his scheme for a new financial order based on fixed interest rates, and had alienated other European Union countries by appearing to take the lead on European Central Bank policy.
