Journalist Brendan Gill studied at Yale University and then began contributing short stories to the New Yorker. He was appointed a staff writer at the age of 22, and retained that position for more than 61 years. He soon established a niche as a non-fiction writer, and was particularly talented at rewriting. He was mainly interested in social and architectural subjects, but also wrote several biographies. The best of these is probably 'Many Masks,' his life of Frank Lloyd Wright.
