Sir John Kendrew
Article Abstract:
Biochemist John Kendrew studied chemistry, mathematics, physics and biochemistry at Trinity College, Cambridge, England. During the second world war, he worked on radar at the Air Ministry Research Establishment, and was later involved in operational research at Royal Air Force Headquarters. During this time, his scientific interest turned more and more to biology, and he decided to work on the structure of proteins when he returned to Cambridge in 1946. He linked with Max Perutz to form the Medical Research Council Unit for Molecular Biology in 1949.

Peter Scheuer
Article Abstract:
Theoretical astrophysicist and radio astronomer Peter Scheuer was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 1930. He became a naturalized British subject in 1946, and studied at St John's College, Cambridge, England. He became a research student in the Radio Astronomy Group of the Cavendish Laboratory in 1951.

Vitalli Goldanskii
Article Abstract:
Chemical physicist Vitalii Goldanskii was born in Vitebsk, Soviet Union, in 1923. He studied in the Dept of Chemistry at the University of Leningrad and later at Lomonosov State University. He was Director-General of the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 1993.
