Building a nation of e-citizens
Article Abstract:
The government of Singapore is placing strong emphasis on the development of a multi-media hub which will connect all homes, offices and factories to a broadband cable network. Citizens will be placed under very strong pressure to use this network. Indeed, some services will only be available by accessing the network. The master plan aims for 100,000 people to be trained by the end of 2000. By 2002, around 30% of the school curriculum will be taught by computer.

Sticky Chinese fingers close to the honey pot
Article Abstract:
There is no feeling of optimism in Hong Kong about likely developments when the colony comes under Chinese rule from Jul 01, 1997. Many Hong Kong Chinese are already emigrating, and the top schools are losing up to a third of their pupils every year. Those who remain are working on strategies for surviving with the transfer of power. There is a general feeling that the best way to cope will be to remain as inconspicuous as possible.

Asian bond market reflects high investment needs
Article Abstract:
Many international investors are starting to become attracted to the expanding Asian bond market, even though they still have very little experience of Asian bonds. A recent World Bank conference on Asian's emerging bond markets set a very positive tone. There is likely to be a strong move towards capital market development, particularly the bond market, and there is great demand for investment in the region.
