Should you switch to direct debit?
Article Abstract:
Direct debiting is becoming an increasingly popular way of paying regular bills in the UK, with 60% of UK bill payers now paying an average of four different bills by direct debit. However, some people are still reluctant to agree to a direct debit arrangement, as the sum taken from the bank account can be varied by the company receiving the payment. There are now strict regulations governing direct debiting, and this, along with the incentives being made available, is encouraging more people to enter direct debit agreements.

What price customer loyalty? Supermarket shoppers will get discounts under glitzy new schemes. But Big Brother may come to rule the till
Article Abstract:
A number of UK supermarket chains are now running customer loyalty schemes which allow shoppers to receive discounts once a certain number of points has been accumulated. This seems to offer advantages for the customer, but it must also be remembered that the use of a loyalty card also allows the company to build up detailed information about an individual's purchasing habits. The offer may seem attractive, but it is important not to be tempted to buy more simply in order to accumulate extra points.

What if you have a dead cert in the 3.15 at Kempton and need some cash? Banks have new competitors on the high street. Pawnbrokers
Article Abstract:
Pawnbrokers have shaken off their rather negative image, and now offer a fast, efficient service. Many people now view a pawn shop as a source of funds similar to a bank or building society, and no longer feel ashamed to be seen in a pawn shop. Pawnbrokers offer instant cash, and some people see them as offering a service for the storage of valuables.
