Dark lord of the Spanish plains
Article Abstract:
The Castilla region of Spain has close associations with El Cid, the legendary champion of Spanish Christendom in the 11th century. El Cid was born in the village of Vivar, Spain, which is rather lacking in atmosphere. He grew up in Burgos, Spain, where giftshops in the medieval quarter sell many replicas of his broadsword La Tizona. Visitors to the region may wish to follow El Cid's trail all the way to Valencia, Spain, but his burial place is just outside Burgos.
