Cheap, but highly effective
Article Abstract:
Major companies use Master of Business Administration(MBA) students doing three-month projects as part of their course to solve problems cheaply. The companies often accept the recommendations and employ the students. This provides the opportunity to try new career areas or different departments within a company which rigidly keeps staff in the same department. One-fifthe of full-time MBA students gained employment in the firms for which they conducted their projects in 1991. Part-time and distance students usually have to tailor their project to their current job.

Coping with a bursting campus
Article Abstract:
Universities are planning methods of teaching the greater numbers of students they are accepting. Lectures address 400 students and seminar groups can have up to 40 members. National initiatives aid the improvement of efficiency and productivity. Universities are investigating the use of information technology, computerised campuses and courseware. Warwick leads the development of law courseware based on hypertext. Edinburgh and Aberdeen are using students to assess each other.

Noise and violence, then blessed silence
Article Abstract:
Complaints about domestic noise have doubled in the London Borough of Hackney between 1987 and 1992. They have increased by 34% during 1991/2. The involvement of environmental health officers often ends with victims moving out. Taking neighbours to court oneself is more effective. The complainant needs to prepare civil proceedings in nuisance and an affidavit describing exactly what happened.
