Sales of chilled savory dips in the UK amounted to 54.5 million pounds sterling in 1998 and represents an 11% improvement over 1997 levels. The chilled savory dips sector is divided between single and multiple packs, with onion and garlic dips as the most popular flavors. The American Tex/Mex-style dips, guacamole and salsa, are the fasting growing segments and represent a third of total sales. New products abound in the market from reduced-calorie and low-fat dips to international flavors such as American, Indian and Chinese.

Sales of chilled desserts in the UK reached an estimated 170 million pounds sterling in 1998. The growth of the market remains fairly strong, with sales in 1998 being 52% higher than in 1994. Factors that have contributed to the dynamic growth of the chilled desserts sector include increased demand for convenience foods and greater demand for luxury treats. This sector includes cold-eating cakes and desserts, hot-eating puddings and American-style desserts targeted at young consumers.
