Brigadier Michael Calvert
Article Abstract:
Soldier Michael Calvert trained at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, England, before being commissioned a second lieutenant Royal Engineers in 1933. His first Army posting was to Hong Kong, and he subsequently spent some time in Shanghai, China. He volunteered for the Scots Guards at the outbreak of the second world war, and fought in Burma. He succeeded Brigadier R.W. McLeod in command of the Special Air Service Brigade in Mar 1945 and received a French and a Belgian Croix de Guerre.

Philip Fielden
Article Abstract:
Soldier, horseman and fisherman Philip Fielden studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, England, between 1937 and 1939. He enlisted at the age of 20, and in 1940 joined the Royal Dragoon Guards. He went to Staff College in 1945, and rode several times in the Grand Military Gold Cup Steeplechase. He commanded the Royals in Germany between 1959 and 1961, and was stewards' secretary for the Jockey Club between 1962 and 1972. He fished in many different places across the world.
