Crimes ... and punishment
Article Abstract:
Ian Oliver, chief constable of Grampian police, was until recently highly respected. He is extremely intelligent, and had seen rapid career progression. However, both his police board and the Secretary of State for Scotland have now called for his resignation in the light of a very critical report into the management of a child murder inquiry. The Scottish councillors on the police selection board now plan to use disciplinary procedures to force him to take early retirement. He has shown great belief in himself, while others have accused him of being arrogant and egotistical.
