D-Day postponed as Hong Kong investors hedge their bets
Article Abstract:
The Hong Kong stock market is rising - the Hang Seng index is up 27% in May 1992 - and trade and the economy are growing. The colony is optimistic since Deng Xiaoping, China's elder statesman visited the Shenzhen economic zone on Hong Kong's border. Hong Kong, Guangdong province, Taiwan and Fujian province have 100 million people and provide business opportunities with growth potential. The biggest businesses such as Hutchison Whampoa, Wharf Holdings and Hongkong and Shanghai Banking still keep their options open. Corporate earnings increased by 22% in 1991 and should again in 1992. Inflation is 9.5% and the lending rate is 8%.

It's all right, love, I'm on the pill
Article Abstract:
Research being undertaken in Manchester, England, has made promising progress with the development of drugs designed to reduce a man's sperm count to below the levels at which he could father a child. These drugs produce only mild side effects, and it is not believed that reversibility is a problem. Some observers fear that the development of a male contraceptive would lead to a fall in the use of condoms, thus bringing the risk of rising levels of HIV and Aids. Others are more concerned about the fact that men may not be reliable enough in taking a contraceptive drug.
