David Hicks
Article Abstract:
Interior decorator and garden designer David Hicks studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London, England. He established links with advertising agencies and photographers, and also purchased the Temple at Stoke-by-Nayland in Essex, England, the first in a series of very impressive country houses. He joined with decorator Tom Parr to open Hicks and Parr in London, England, in 1958, and began to establish an individual design philosophy. His great knowledge and enthusiasm ensured that clients always became friends.

Verner Panton
Article Abstract:
Furniture and interior designer Verner Panton studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts between 1947 and 1951. He worked in the office of architect and designer Arne Jacobsen between 1950 and 1952, and during the second half of the 1950s began to design furniture for Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen. He moved to France in 1962 and to Switzerland in 1963, remaining there for the rest of his career. He was a driving force behind the design revolution of the 1960s.

Mark Hampton
Article Abstract:
Interior designer, author and watercolourist Mark Hampton graduated from DePauw University in Indiana in 1962. He spent a year at law school before entering the Institute of Fine Arts in New York, NY, where he gained a master's degree in art history. He began his working life in the early 1960s as the New York associate of David Hicks. He set up his own publishing firm in 1976, and in 1989 launched The Mark Hampton Collection for Hickory Chair Co.
