De Klerk, an odd breed of conservative
Article Abstract:
Former South African President F.W. De Klerk believes that he was unfairly represented as conservative. He believes that his media image was largely attributable to his efforts to retain the mainstream of white opinion when his party became divided over political reform. He emphasizes that he is not seeking recognition for any contribution to the abolition of apartheid, although he believes that his role is acknowledged in the US and the UK. He states that he wrote his autobiography to challenge the stereotype of his people as racist extremists.

Why do we run away from the harsh truth about South Africa?
Article Abstract:
It is common for the challenges and difficulties facing South Africa today to be overlooked by non-South Africans. Many people prefer to focus on the ending of Apartheid and the introduction of democracy, rather than considering the future threats to South Africa's democracy and prosperity. It is important to be aware that South Africa has significant problems with crime, HIV infection and political and social instability.
