Dealing with the IRA's terminators
Article Abstract:
The IRA is currently taking strong action against drug dealers in Belfast, with a number of murders already having taken place. The organisation is clearly trying to reassert its authority after a considerable period of ceasefire, feeling that it cannot operate unless it is both feared and respected by ordinary catholics in Northern Ireland. However, murdering people with only very limited involvement in drugs, as it has been doing recently, may serve to lose it the support of ordinary people. The UK government must now focus on finding a legitimate political role for republicanism in a liberal state.

Paddy's libertarian mission
Article Abstract:
Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown is scorned by mainstream politicians in the UK, who see him as outspoken and lacking respect. In fact, his isolation from mainstream politics allows him to make interesting and provocative speeches. Most recently, he has attacked the puritanical approach being taken by the 'new' Labour party. He has shown that his party has genuine principles and is not afraid to deal with sensitive issues.
