Develop a nose for some vintage investments
Article Abstract:
There has been a very strong rise in prices for wines which are purchased as an investment. This has encouraged the creation of companies focusing on selling wines on the basis of their investment potential rather than their drinking quality. Experts believe that wine prices will continue to rise, being boosted by the opening up of new markets for the finest wines. However, it is important to be aware that there are risks associated with investing in wine. It is also vital to obtain a certificate of ownership and to check that each individual case is marked with the buyer's name and details.

When 5bn pounds sterling is up for grabs, you have to expect a fight
Article Abstract:
Prudential has a 12 billion pounds sterling surplus in its with-profits fund. The ownership of part of this surplus, possibly as much as 5 billion pounds sterling, is uncertain. The company has been negotiating with the UK Dept of Trade and Industry over this money, which could be used to pay additional dividends, help pay for acquisitions or fund business expansion. If Prudential is permitted to access these funds, which come from ordinary branch business, then other life insurance companies are likely to seek to do the same.
