Diesel cars
Article Abstract:
Diesel cars are becoming more popular in Europe. The 1993 UK market is 19% compared to 1% in 1983. Increased popularity is due to: the availiability of modern engines with performance levels as high as petrol engines; engines are less noisy; environmental aspects and cost aspects. Diesel engines are cleaner as they produce 90% less carbon monoxide compared to catalyst-equppied petrol engines but they do produce nitricoxides. Diesel engines consume 37% less fuel than petrol cars. Peugot holds the largest share of the UK diesel car market.
