Do we still have the stomach for meat?
Article Abstract:
Recent violent protests about the export of live calves for veal have served to draw public attention to the horrors of factory farming. The Vegetarian Society believes that this will mark a very important stage in the development of the vegetarian movement, encouraging many more people to convert to vegetarianism. Figures indicate that around 2,000 people a week are deciding to give up eating meat, but the Meat and Livestock Commission believes that there is unlikely to be a large-scale move towards vegetarianism simply as a result of the recent protests.

NHS fertility treatment hit by cash row
Article Abstract:
The current conflict between health authorities and GPs in the UK about meeting the cost of the drugs required to stimulate a woman's ovaries before she receives a cycle of in vitro fertilisation treatment is having a negative impact on many couples who would be eligible for National Health Service fertility treatment. The health authorities are referring women to their GPs for the necessary drugs, but many GPs are unwilling to prescribe them. This means that couples are having to pay for the drugs themselves, at a cost of 600-800 pounds sterling.
