Don't put your daughter into newspapers, Mrs Worthington
Article Abstract:
Journalism is a very attractive career for many young people in the UK. Indeed, courses in media, journalism and communications studies are extremely popular. However, the majority of those who study these subjects will not be successful in establishing a career in journalism. The best advice for them is probably to try to develop an alternative career. It is only worth working for a high quality newspaper, and working for a low quality newspaper should not be regarded as the first stage in a successful career in journalism.

The strangest relationship: nannies and working mothers
Article Abstract:
There are some 100,000 au pairs and nannies working in the United Kingdom where there are low levels of state childcare provision and there is a high proportion of working mothers. The relationship between parents and nannies has to involve some compromise and recognition of the needs of both parties if it is to succeed. There are other questions that should be addressed, such as why parents work such long hours, and why there are not enough creches for children.
