Article Abstract:
The number of cash payments in the UK has fallen over recent years, but cash still accounted for just over 16 million of the total 26 million recorded transactions in 1994. There has been a strong rise in the volume of cash in circulation, partly because of spending on the National Lottery and partly because inflation and interest rates are low, meaning that cash does not lose its value so quickly. The growing availability of cash from cash dispenser machines has also had an impact on this trend.

Article Abstract:
George Monbiot, founder and spokesperson of the Land Is Ours campaign, has an image which seems much less extreme than that of most environmental activists. However, he has had several clashes with the police, and has been blacklisted by seven countries. He has entered very dangerous situations in order to publicise corruption or human rights abuses, and has an extremely strong sense of injustice. He now hopes to establish strong credentials as an alternative campaigner.
