Students preparing for A-level examinations should use the Easter period to begin seriously revising. There are a number of ways of approaching revision, but it generally seems most effective to go over the syllabus material several times, rather than going through it very slowly only once. It is important to be aware of areas that need particular attention, and care should also be taken to practice essay planning. Formal Easter revision courses can be useful if they are able to boost a student's confidence.

Article Abstract:

There have been a number of cases recently in which people who have only lived in the countryside for a short time have raised objections to the traditional smells, noise and dirt of the countryside. There are now some fierce battles being fought between farmers and former town dwellers over these issues. A particularly sensitive case is that of farmer Tim Wood of Somerset, who is facing opposition from newcomers to plans to start farming free-range chickens.

Bernard Manning: racist, sexist and offensive ... don't you just love him?

Article Abstract:

Prime minister John Major recently criticised comedian Bernard Manning for making offensive racists remarks about a black detective at a police charity dinner. However, Manning has not felt obliged to change his act at all as a result. He attacks all ethnic minorities and racial groups, and even abuses members of the audience. This seems to appeal greatly to his audiences, which are mainly made up of working class men.
