Dumplings on tap for the running dogs of Communist imperialism
Article Abstract:
Chinese composer Tan Dun's 'Symphony 1997 (Heaven Earth Mankind)' has been written for bells which are 2,500 years old. These were excavated in 1978 from a nobleman's tomb in Hubei Province, and were among 125 instruments dug up. The music in which they are used, which was written by Tan Dun at the request of the Association for Celebration of Re-unification, was also composed with cellist Yo-Yo Ma in mind. The original bells were used for the recording of the Sony CD, while replicas will be used for concert performances.

Cruelty, thy name is Cenci...
Article Abstract:
Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has linked with British playwright and director Nick Ward to produce a reinterpretation of Antonin Artaud's 1935 play 'The Cenci.' This play was not at all well received when it was first staged in Paris, France, but Artaud had a significant influence on ways of looking at the theatre and at reality. The score composed by Battistelli explores Artaud's interest in the relationship between the play and the space in which it is performed.
