Cars are the dinosaurs of travel
Article Abstract:
Cars which are being manufactured today differ very little in terms of technology from those which were produced in the early days of motoring. The petrol internal combustion engine is very old technology, and car manufacturers continue to use steel for most of the bodywork, even though it is much heavier than modern lightweight plastics. Most modern cars are much heavier than they need to be, and this means that they require large, powerful engines. It is now time for the car industry to take the initiative and produce a new type of car which is much more efficient.

Space invaders
Article Abstract:
New developments in the people-carrier sector have been evident at the recent 1996 Paris Motor Show. Renault has taken a new approach to the people-carrier, launching the Scenic, which is much smaller and less expensive than other people-carriers. Despite this, it can easily seat five adults, and has a large boot. In contrast, Renault is moving its Espace range upmarket, with the top V6 model now set to reach a price of around 30,000 pounds sterling. Other developments include people-carriers from Vauxhall and Toyota.

How safe is your car?
Article Abstract:
Safety features are now given a high profile in car manufacturers' advertising material, but not all features are as effective as potential purchasers are led to believe. The most effective include crumple zones, anti-lock brakes and collapsible steering columns. Safety pedal boxes and side impact bars are less useful.
