El Nino wreaks havoc in the Gardens of Plenty
Article Abstract:
The El Nino weather system has brought drought and severe food shortages to Papua New Guinea. In the New Guinea Highlands, there have been cases of malnutrition, food poisoning, pneumonia and typhus, while in neighbouring West Papua, part of Indonesia, as many as 600 people have died. It is not believed that anybody in Papua New Guinea itself has actually died of hunger, but the emergency may become a famine. If the weather does not change shortly, the situation will become extremely serious, especially in Tambul, part of the Western Highlands.

Is fish oil the cure for schizophrenia?
Article Abstract:
Researchers at Sheffield University, England, believe that fish oil may be a viable treatment for schizophrenia. If this proves to be the case, then the National Health Service would see considerable benefits, as it currently spends 810 million pounds sterling a year on treating the UK's schizophrenics. Latest research at Sheffield University is investigating several different formulations of EPA, a type of fish oil, and their impact on 75 patients.

Plenty more fish
Article Abstract:
The small town of Comacchio, Italy, is situated on a small network of canals, and attracts many anglers. There are large numbers of wooden fishing huts along the rivers and drainage channels around the town. Many of these are equipped with automated angling systems which mean that very little effort is required on the part of the angler. There is a very relaxed atmosphere around the huts, with many of the anglers becoming firm friends.
