Linford Christie, 36-year-old UK athlete, wants to take part in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA, despite recent injuries. He did not make a decision until the last minute, having previously spoken of not competing, but loyalty to Ron Roddan, his coach, and improvement in his relations with the British Athletic Federation made him decide to take the risk. He also fears that if he did not take part, he might regret hearing that someone had run the 100 metre race in ten seconds. Christie says that the death of his mother put life into perspective for him.

The US Senate's rejection of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty is a reflection of the fact that the Senate is no longer concerned about arms control or the interests of other countries. Politics in the US is becoming increasingly dominated by people who have little regard for international law and opinion and who are determine to pursue their own interests. It is not acceptable for responsible countries that the US should have adopted this destructive approach.
