Europe's heroin haven
Article Abstract:
Zurich's Letten disused railway siding has become a magnet for heroin addicts, and in summer 1994 there were up to 4,000 addicts from across central Europe there. The dealers and addicts have been tolerated by the authorities for the last three years, as the siding is situated away from the very centre of the city. However, there have now been many complaints from local residents and retailers, and the authorities have decided to close Letten down. Riot police have fenced the area off, but social workers and doctors believe that this will be counter-productive, simply moving the problem elsewhere.

'I'm giving you this heroin, teacher. It's killing my mum and my dad.' (drugs finds at United Kingdom primary schools)
Article Abstract:
Drugs have been found at a number of primary schools in the UK. Drugs Tsar Keith Hellawell has stated that these incidents indicate that children are becoming exposed to drugs, both at home and within their community, at an increasingly early age. He has emphasized that children as young as five are now coming to school knowing about drugs. This problem has been highlighted by an incident in which a child of seven took heroin into his school in Stirling, Scotland, in an effort to prevent his mother taking it.

Ta-ta heroin, hello teacakes
Article Abstract:
It is important for a poet to be aware of everyday life, according to performance poet John Cooper Clarke. For this reason, he is pleased that he is no longer as famous as he once was. He does not resent the fact that other performance poets are now more famous than him, even though in some cases they seem to have imitated his style. He still writes poetry, but is now very happily involved in ordinary family life. Having a young child has made him more active, while he feels that a poet needs idleness.
