Farming hit by worst crisis since the thirties
Article Abstract:
British farmers face a serious collpase in livestock and crop prices due to a number of factors including the rise in value of pound sterling and Russia's economic problems. Wheat remains profitable as a result of European Union subsidies, but most other activities bring losses. The Agriculture minister, Nick Brown, is seeking more funds, and any help for farmers is likely to come with conditions attached. Some livestock farmers have abandoned animals in public locations. Brown argues that farmers have continued to breed animals despite oversupply.
