Fear of future wars hangs over treaty
Article Abstract:
The peace settlements for Bosnia, which are shortly to be officially signed, represent a compromise between the Bosnian Serbs, the Muslim-led Bosnian government and the Bosnian Croats. Bosnia remains an independent state, but is officially divided into a Muslim-Croat federation and a Bosnian Serb republic. Many observers fear that the continued lack of trust between the various parties may mean that war breaks out again, especially after the withdrawal of Nato peace-keeping troops.

Despair at a war that has no end
Article Abstract:
Most western observers and government representatives expect the conflict in former Yugoslavia, which has now gone on for four years, to get worse in the near future. The international peace effort has suffered a number of failures recently, and western governments are unable to take a unified approach to the problem. The most serious issue is the role of the United Nations peace-keeping forces.
