Few cats get the ice-cream
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) report 'Rewarding the Advertising Profession' found that a creative director in a large agency earns an average 95,379 pounds sterling per annum. David Haigh, joint managing director of the agency Publicis Dialogue and author of the report said that most advertising professionals earn less than marketing, accountancy and legal staff. A survey by Hay Management Consultants found that a junior art director earns about 13,842 pounds sterling, 40% less than a similar junior solicitor. Creative advertising staff are usually under 40. The IPA report showed only 20% over 40. Many creatives burn out hence the high rewards.

Songs of God and clifftops
Article Abstract:
Poet and reverend R S Thomas will not condemn the arsonists who attack homes in Wales bought by the English. He now writes in English and produces hundreds of poems every year but admits that probably only a handful will be of real quality. Since 1946 he has produced 25 collections of poems and his autobiography Neb, which he has refused to allow to be translated from Welsh. He should have retired from the Church in 1978 but still preaches most Sunday mornings and administers the sacraments.
