First woman among equals
Article Abstract:
Lovell White Durrant has appointed Lesley MacDonagh as the first woman managing partner at a leading City law firm. She believes that she has benefited from the company's flexible attitudes and lack of pre-conceptions, and has enjoyed working for a large firm. She is one of eight women out of 75 members of the Law Society's council, and will remain there when she takes up her new responsibilities. She is keen to encourage innovative ideas, ensuring that lawyers are aware of new trends.

An establishment questioned
Article Abstract:
The withdrawal of John Young as a candidate for the presidency of the Law Society following claims of sexual harassment may allow Eileen Pembridge to become the first woman president of the Law Society. The contest is now between her and deputy vice-president Henry Hodge, and the withdrawal of Young will allow it to be fought on issues alone.
