For what cause did Jill Phipps die?
Article Abstract:
The recent death of animal rights protester Jill Phipps, who was crushed to death by a lorry carrying calves for export, could be forgotten very soon, or it could mark a turning point in the debate over whether exports of live animals should be allowed to continue. Some observers believe that she was largely to blame for her own death, while others will feel sad that she was killed but not necessarily any sympathy with her views. Her family believe that she would not wanted to have become a martyr to the cause of animal liberation, as she had a young son to care for.

Crowning glory of British industry
Article Abstract:
There were 140 export winners in the 1995 Queen's Awards, with the high level of entries in this section reflecting the UK's strengthening balance of payments. However, there were only 17 technology winners, the lowest level since 1981, and only six environmental awards were won. It is now expected that efforts will be made to encourage more entries in the technology and environmental sections.
