There is extensive nuclear activity in the Kola Peninsula in Russia. The Kola nuclear station, along with the Northern Fleet, nuclear cargo vessels and icebreakers based at Murmansk, Russia, together account for 18% of all nuclear reactors on Earth. At Andreyeva Bay, in a fiord 30 miles from the border with Norway, there are 21,000 spent fuel rods and 13,000 cu mt of solid and liquid radioactive waste in containers exposed to the elements. Many nuclear submarines are now rotting at Andreyeva Bay and in other locations around the Kola Peninsula.

Article Abstract:
District Judge C Clyde Atkins in Miami made two temporary areas safe zones for the homeless to live without fear of arrest, giving them constitutional rights for the first time. About 700,000 are homeless in the US. Miami has about 6,000 homeless people but only 600 shelter beds. Vagrancy, loitering and public nuisance laws have previously been used to arrest homeless people in Miami. Judge Atkins referred to this treatment as cruel and in breach of the 8th Amendment.

Christian Coalition out to call presidential tune
Article Abstract:
The Christian Coalition claims to be politically neutral, but is in fact the voice of the religious right in the US. It played a key role in the Republican victory in Congress in 1994, and determines the party's social policies. Republican candidates for the 1996 presidential nomination realise that it is extremely important to gain the support of the Christian Coalition.
