General Saw Maung
Article Abstract:
Soldier and politician Saw Muang joined the Burmese army in 1949, eventually becoming Chief of Staff in 1985. His career development was boosted by his close association with General Ne Win, who ruled Burma for 26 years up to 1988. It is likely that he was influenced by Ne Win after he became head of the junta which seized power in Burma in 1988. As head of the military government, he was responsible for many acts which were regarded by the outside world as being contrary to human rights.
