Tom Eckersley
Article Abstract:
Graphic designer Thomas Eckersley gained a very positive reputation for his ability to communicate a strong message through great understatement. He was greatly influenced by Surrealist artists while training as a graphic designer, as well as by the graphic work of Hans Schleger and by French poster designer A.M. Cassandre. He became head of the department of design at the London College of Printing in 1957, and designed many posters for public service agencies.

Maurice Rickards
Article Abstract:
Designer, photographer, writer and ephemerist Maurice Rickards began designing posters at an early age. At 16, he entered Westminster Art School, but left to train as a photographer. He undertook agricultural and social work during the second world war, and then established his own photographic and design studio. He abandoned photography and design in 1970 for a writing career, and produced a series of works on ephemera.

Eric Ayers
Article Abstract:
Typographer, graphic designer and teacher Eric Ayers was born in London, England, in 1921. He studied at the School of Photo-Engraving and Lithography in London, England, and then at Beckenham School of Art and, after the second world war, at the Royal College of Art. He became art director at Weidenfeld and Nicolson in 1958.
