General Sir William Jackson

Article Abstract:

Soldier and historian William Jackson became King's Medallist for his year at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, England. He studied Mechanical Science at King's College, Cambridge, England, and was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1937. He subsequently joined the 6th Armoured Divisional Engineers. He was wounded in Dec 1942, but was permitted to return to the division in autumn 1943. He became GSO1 at HQ Allied Land Forces in South-East Asia in May 1945, and remained in the Far East until 1948. He was later to become Assistant Chief of General Staff at the Ministry of Defence.

Eddie Chapman

Article Abstract:

Wartime double agent and adventurer Eddie Chapman grew up in difficult circumstances, and turned to a life of crime after being dismissed from the Army. He offered to undertake sabotage for the Germans on the UK mainland when Germany invaded the Channel Islands, and was very well trained by the Germans. He passed information to MI5, and then in turn fed false information back to Germany. He was the only Englishman to be awarded the Iron Cross.
