Global food hunter stalks his prey
Article Abstract:
The purchase of part of the French associate of Eurest International from Accor for 589 million pounds sterling could cause some embarrassement for contract catering concern Compass, as it brings it into conflict with rival concern Sodexho, which is refusing to sell its own shares in the business. However, it is important that Compass goes ahead with the deal at the current price, according to chief executive Francis Mackay, even if some shareholders disapprove. He believes that the purchase will be an important strategic move for the company.

Hot air and global warming
Article Abstract:
Environmental issues concentrate on negative aspects and obscure natural problems. Third World diseases remain low priority in favour of speculative threats of global warming. The discovery of an ozone hole above Antarctica was reported sensationally when in fact a breach did not develop. Volcanic eruption can cause chemicals which are sometimes connected with ozone depletion but this fact was not publicised. Positive ecological developments are made little of, assuming that voter only care about life-threatening issues.

The global threat from ... tiger balm?
Article Abstract:
Operation Charm is a national operation in which police forces have been cracking down on the sale of products made from endangered species. Raids were undertaken on Chinese medicine shops in London, Manchester and Birmingham, and products made from tiger bone, bear bile and rhino horn were confiscated. The shops cooperated with the police, but retailers believe that the police operation should really be targeting exporters of such products.
