Greens within grasp of power
Article Abstract:
The Greens are now becoming a significant force in European politics. There are 27 Green deputies in the European Parliament, and four European environment ministers are now Greens. The Greens will now have a significant impact on the outcome of the process by which the European Union council of ministers makes laws on the environment. Greens hold government positions in France and Germany, and have also taken places in ruling coalitions in Finland and Italy. Furthermore, they also have seats in parliament in 12 of the 15 European Union member states.

Germans outraged their language is ruled out at EU
Article Abstract:
German and Austrian industry ministers have boycotted plans by Finland, which currently holds the presidency of the European Union, to offer only French, English and Finnish at four of its informal ministerial meetings. German Culture Minister Michael Naumann has also withdrawn from an informal meeting of culture ministers in protest at Finland's plans. Formal meetings offer translation of all 11 European Union languages, but the system for informal meetings is based on precedent.
