Groping towards the right size of public sector
Article Abstract:
Governments around the world will look closely at the UK Labour party's plans for improving standards of service in healthcare and education. However, it should not be assumed that the general policy of how the UK deals with public services will necessarily be adopted in many other countries. There are few market signals of success or failure in the provision of public services, and it is therefore necessary to find some other way of assessing performance. There may be several ways of producing high standards in public services, and these must be applied if standards in the public sector are not to be worse than those in the private sector.

The e-commerce buzz gets louder as firms ponder their on-line plot
Article Abstract:
Many UK companies are now beginning to recognize that it is vital to draw up an effective electronic commerce strategy. Many of these experiments will prove unsuccessful, but adapting US models for a different marketplace will be a significant growth area.
