Greenspan keeps the markets guessing over reappointment
Article Abstract:
The White House has not yet clarified whether US Federal Reserve Chmn Alan Greenspan will be reappointed when he comes up for renomination in Jun 2000. Greenspan himself is being extremely reserved, both about his own prospects and about the performance of the US economy, which is showing signs of a slowdown and rising inflation. George W. Bush, the most likely Republican candidate in the 2000 Presidential election, wishes Greenspan to be renominated, but two Republican candidates, Dan Quayle and Steve Forbes, oppose his renomination.

'We were helpless ... flying alongside and knowing the people were unconscious.'
Article Abstract:
The Learjet in which golfer Payne Stewart and five others died took off from Orlando, FL. It was heading for Dallas, TX, but its flight pattern became erratic and radio contact was lost. It flew for almost 1,500 miles on autopilot, fluctuating between 22,000 ft and 51,000 ft, before crashing in South Dakota. Air Force pilots who tracked it report that the windows were frosted over, indicating that it had lost pressure.
