Article Abstract:
Film director Phil Alden Robinson, 42, was born in Long Beach, New York. He studied political science at Union College, Schenectady, New York and worked as a television and radio newscaster. He made training films in California in lieu of serving in Vietnam. From 1974-1980 he worked in industrial films, then began screenwriting. He enjoys the research involved. His 'Field of Dreams,' made in 1989, was very successful, winning him an Oscar nomination. His next project was a computer film, 'Sneakers.'
