Han Dongfang's long march
Article Abstract:
It is vital that the interests of ordinary Chinese people are represented from within the country, according to Han Dongfang, a former protest leader at Tiananmen Square who now lives on Lamma, an island off Hong Kong. He was brutally tortured after his involvement in the Tiananmen Square protest and subsequently developed tuberculosis, from which he almost died. He recovered after medical treatment in the US, and is now seeking to return to China. He is keen to act as an effective voice for ordinary Chinese people.

Bombed, battered, unbowed, Manchester gets back to business as usual
Article Abstract:
There is a strong determination to see the centre of Manchester, England, recover quickly from the damage caused by the IRA bombing in Jun 1996. Marks and Spencer, for example, has opened two temporary outlets in the city centre, and many other retailers are committed to strong trading in the pre-Christmas period. However, smaller retailers are still facing considerable disruption.
