Alan Yentob is seen as a possible new director general for the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC), since Sir John Birt is retiring. Yentob has made friends throughout the media, and they include Orson Welles. He studied at the Sorbonne, Paris, and Grenoble University, both in France, and then at Leeds University, England. He emphasises the public service values of the BBC in providing news and fostering creativity. His championship of the BBC's core values makes him sound like a director general.
