Higher value
Article Abstract:
It is widely agreed that the introduction of tuition fees at UK universities will make students and their parents less tolerant of poor standards of teaching and poor facilities. Student assertiveness has already been rising over recent years, and fees are set to accelerate this trend. Paying fees will make students think more carefully about their choice of university and course, and they will expect to be constantly making progress, rather than studying at the rate of the least able in their group.

When three As aren't enough
Article Abstract:
Some UK independent schools feel that universities can be biased against their pupils. This view seems to be supported by research focusing on 15,000 candidates for university entry from independent schools. Of these, almost 500 were rejected without even having been invited for an interview, even though many were predicted to get very good A-level results. University admissions tutors deny that they discriminate against any particular group of applicant.
