How America's golfing president fooled them all
Article Abstract:
Former US president Dwight Eisenhower was frequently portrayed by his opponents and the media as ineffective, being more interested in golf than politics. However, recently declassified US government documents indicate that Eisenhower may in fact have been a wise political operator. It appears that the US was not taken by surprise by the launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik One on Oct 1957, but took a deliberate decision to allow the Soviet Union to get ahead in the space race, even though this damaged the price of many ordinary Americans.

Graves, the new destination
Article Abstract:
Plans by George Tulloch to charge large amounts to take people to view the raising of part of the Titanic, which sank off Newfoundland in 1912 with the loss of 1,500 lives, have attracted mixed views. Many people feel that he should not be attempting to make money out of a sunken ship which was a grave for so many people, and others are concerned about the prospect of disturbing human remains. This issue has always been very sensitive, with grave robbing having generally been seen as a particularly unpleasant crime.
