How Cadburys kept the world sweet and found a fortune
Article Abstract:
John Cadbury founded his business in 1824 in Bull Street, Birmingham with a principle of quality. In the nineteen-twenties it was one of the first British companies to recruit graduates. In 1962 it went public to provide a fair market for the shares. It made brands its main commercial assets and considers brand management to be its business. In 1969 it merged with Schweppes to provide two income streams. The Cadburys are a Quaker family concerned with social welfare. The 1879 Bournville factory pioneered better working conditions and facilites. Cadbury Schweppes is a possible takeover target and General Cinema held a 17% stake from 1988-1992 but Dominic Cadbury stuck at the business and the shares stand at a 15% premium to the market in 1992.
