Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common for people to try to bring more alcohol and tobacco into the UK than is permitted by Customs and Excise regulations for personal consumption. In many cases, people make up very unbelievable stories to try to persuade customs officers that they should be allowed to exceed their personal allowances. Bringing alcohol and tobacco into the UK from continental Europe and selling it on at prices lower than those charged in official outlets in the UK can be very profitable, especially in the case of rolling tobacco.
