Less work, more activity
Article Abstract:
There are many ethical arguments in favour of putting an end to the work culture which has dominated UK society for many generations. In the modern world, people should be able to work out of choice, not obligation. Almost everyone wants to undertake some form of work, but non-work activities should not be regarded as inferior to work. It is likely that in the future there will no longer be a moral imperative that everyone should give over a large part of their life to work.

The guru with a message of repression
Article Abstract:
Amitai Etzioni, who has greatly influenced key members of the UK Labour party, emphasizes that people who assert their rights must also be prepared to assume related obligations. He suggests that individual freedoms should be curbed, despite his claims to the contrary. In fact, he goes as far as to advocate a return to the repression of the 1950s. His views are popular with politicians because blaming individuals absolves the politicians themselves of any responsibility.
