Many financial experts attempt to predict the measures which will be introduced by the chancellor in the annual Budget, but they are rarely successful. The majority of measures actually have little impact on the financial position of ordinary people. They are much more likely to be affected by mistakes in macroeconomic policy. Such mistakes can have a severe impact on the level of growth in the economy, or on interest rates or inflation.

However, it must be remembered that technical analysts are only correct half the time, according to expert Brian Marber. They best they can expect to do is to catch the best part of a significant price movement. They should be particularly wary of giving a firm view when there is no clear message from the charts.
