Investments
Article Abstract:
Recent difficulties surrounding Morgan Grenfell investment trusts and Kleinwort Benson's European Privatisation Investment Trust have served to highlight that investment trusts can become the target of predatory action by rivals if they perform badly. Careful investment must always be the main concern of investment fund managers, who should not allow themselves to be blinded by apparently attractive new concepts. It is vital that a new investment trust is based on sound investment criteria, rather than on marketing opportunities.

Article Abstract:
Sir Mark Weinberg, who is chairing a UK committee investigating the situation of private investors, believes that private investors do not know enough about investing in the stock market and that institutions are in a stronger position. Sir Mark also believes that the financial services industry should be doing more to attract small shareholders. He has been condemned for not placing enough emphasis on the new regulation of the Stock Exchange which enables firms to keep private investors out of new flotations.
