It wasn't all brimstone and treacle
Article Abstract:
The traditional approved schools in the UK played a valuable role in making pupils who had been expelled from ordinary schools for bad behaviour aware of the difference between right and wrong, according to Terry Cade. He spent two and a half years at Dobroyd Hall approved school in Todmorden, England, where he found that the teachers really cared for the pupils and wanted to bring out the best in them. Approved schools fell from favour after the discovery of brutality at Court Lees in 1967, but some observers now believe that approved schools could have a role in dealing with juvenile delinquency.

Warning from the profit of doom
Article Abstract:
The city of Bristol, England, was heavily involved in the slave trade, according to actor Warren Clarke. He has been angered by the fact that the city seems unwilling to acknowledge this negative aspect of its past. Bristol's history has been documented in detail in the BBC drama 'A Respectable Trade,' in which Clarke plays a slave trader. He feels that this drama strongly highlights the fact that the UK made a great deal of money from the slave trade.
