It's a thankless job - who'd be a head?
Article Abstract:
Large numbers of headteachers in the UK are resigning, and this should be a serious cause of concern for the government. In many cases, headteachers feel that they can no longer cope with the excessive bureaucracy which their job now involves and with the chronic lack of resources for schools, especially at primary level. There has been a great deal of educational legislation over recent years, and this has put further pressure on headteachers, many of whom are beginning to lose confidence in their abilities.

Ethnic work ethic
Article Abstract:
The performance of school children in the UK tends to follow an ethnic pattern, according to recent research. Those from Asian backgrounds are generally performing much better than those from other ethnic backgrounds, and this has been found to be connected with greater effort and interest among these children in achieving well, rather than with superior intelligence. There is a strong work ethic in the Asian community, and Asian school children are keenly aware of the consequences of educational failure.
